When you’re feeling the heat at work
You just cannot pinpoint the source of your discomfort, but you know someone is working their magic. To top it off, your manager will come around and say something like ‘darling, if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.’ Winking at you with a sly smile on his face and walking away; chatting to one of your colleagues.
These are the signs I have picked up:
I am not someone that likes cold air, so what would they do to make my life difficult? Turn the air conditioning down to really cold, this makes me mad, I have to walk around the office all day in long sleeves and a jersey. You would think its winter.
Please can you assist Ms Janet Frost she can’t cope and please will you take on some of her duties? Now your work load is heavy as it is, but you agree. You don’t want to seem uncooperative.
People will start to distance themselves from you, for some obscure reason they will be too busy to talk to you. Someone had a chat to some of your friends and because they are afraid of the specific person they distance themselves from you. You won’t find out who it is because they all are so loyal.
All of the above have not worked its magic but now you manager is getting impatient because you are coping regardless of all the above actions taken against you. He starts to make unrealistic and unreasonable demands on your time. You will be getting ready to pack up and go home it’s just after 17h00, he will pop his head around and say ‘can you please come and see me?’ You walk over and he will say I need this urgent letter typed up before you leave for home.
If you can’t handle it leave. If you can, it will get better in the long run. Persevere – it pays off.
